Deadly Creatures (Wii) hands-on preview

Deadly Creatures (Wii) screenshotGamesRadar goes hands-on with the Wii exclusive, Deadly Creatures.

The tone and creativity involved definitely piqued our interest, and the gameplay seemed to offer a nice variety of exploration and tactical combat. Skittering around and discovering the nooks and crannies in the world of vermin will absolutely be interesting. What we can’t be sure of is whether the combat will hold up for the game’s entire length. From what we saw, it was not a mindless button masher – a good ways from it. If they can keep us on our toes by maintaining a continuous stream of imaginative environments and combat challenges, then Deadly Creatures will be a sleeper hit even for the hardcore Wii owners (and yes, we do exist).

I think it sounds pretty good! Deadly Creatures hits stores in February.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Nintendo DS preview

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (Nintendo DS) artworkComputerAndVideoGames.com goes hands-on with the “brilliant” Nintendo DS exclusive, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, calling it their “most anticipated Nintendo DS game as of right now”.

The opening is cinematic, with the camera panning down a fully 3D street as the hip-hop begins and the game’s credits fade in and out. Our attention was quickly grabbed. During the intro alone we observed busy roads, vehicles with headlights, working indicators, reverse lights and their own physics. Buildings were detailed, as were trees, bins, boxes and lamp posts - all breakable. Pedestrians also littered the pavements going about their business. Attention to detail and overall level of bustle is incredible for a DS game.

MadWorld Wii impressions

MadWorld (Wii) screenshotsDestructoid has an interesting preview of a game that’s been generating a lot of buzz lately.

Developed by Platinum Games and published by Sega, MadWorld for the Wii is an “ultra-violent” game making its way to the Wii in March. MadWorld features highly stylized visuals: everything is in black and white, with the exception of “gallons of red blood that will be spilled as you play”.

Killing is undeniably fun each and every time you do it. There are over 1,000 ways to kill people, from hazards in your environment to the moves that Jack can perform. If you beat up a guy enough, he will get dazed and players can perform finishing moves by using motion controls. Players can toss a guy into the air and stick their chainsaw into his belly as he comes back down, or do a back breaker on an enemy … the list of moves goes on.

Right now, my only complaints with the game are the enemy AI and camera. The AI rarely put up a real challenge as I fought them — they barely defended themselves, for that matter. The camera also needed some babysitting. There were a lot of times that I had to manually reset the camera to get it to snap behind Jack. It got pretty annoying having to do this every time, and I feel the camera would be much better suited if it was always positioned on Jack’s back.

It sounds like the game will be pretty fun — I’m definitely looking forward to it! MadWorld will no doubt continue to receive attention (both good and bad) as its release date grows closer.
